Pick a Seat!

Welcome to Backyard Gastronomy, the premier site for backyard cuisine.  What is Backyard Cuisine?  Backyard Cuisine is that dinner which every average Joe fixes on the weekend for a few friends before the big game.  Backyard Gastronomy is going to take this concept to the next level, it's going to add flavor and that extra something to what your fixing that will have everyone coming back for more.  This site is designed for the average Joe, the guy or gal who wants to up their game but is an amateur backyard chef at heart.

Who am I?  I'm a backyard chef, just like you.  I grew up in a backyard kitchen, trying to learn as much as I could about food, and perhaps enjoying it a little too much.  My grandfather and father invented and developed the Mair Dutch Oven Lifter, a common staple in many a Dutch Own affair.  Fixing something in the Dutch Oven comes naturally for me, in the family I'm the one who took over the cooking when my grandfather passed away.  But there are so many other intricacies of backyard gourmet cooking, two of which being the barbecue and the grill (yes, there is a difference).  With the grill, I feel fairly confident, but barbecuing is a new adventure.

Pick a seat, and stay awhile.  We're going to focus on all three aspects of the quintessential backyard kitchen; Dutch Oven, Grilling, and the classic Barbecue.  For the Dutch Oven and the Grill, I'm going to share what secrets and tools I have and use to create meals that keep people coming back for more. Join me on the adventure of learning the barbecue so that you can avoid the mistakes and pitfalls that I make in your own backyard kitchen.
